FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How much do you Charge?
Pricing Model Details:
Hourly Labor Rate:
– $80/hr for onsite labor & material procurement efforts. Hourly Labor is rounded to the nearest 15 min increment (from site arrival to departure) and is detailed on the invoice.
– Fair and Square Repair has a 1 hour minimum labor policy.
– Any breaks taken are recorded and subtracted from total labor hours and detailed on the invoice.
Trip Fee:
– Projects requiring onsite work will be assessed a Trip service charge based on total transit time at $50/hr, calculated as the round trip time from the Fair and Square Repair Office to the jobsite and back (rounded to the nearest 15 minute increment and detailed on the invoice).
– Example: travel time from Office to customer’s residence is 9 minutes. Total job round trip travel is 18 minutes. Rounded to nearest quarter hour is 15 min. Trip fee calculation is 1/4 hour x $50/hr = $12.50.
– This fee will be applied for each day that services are provided onsite.
– The trip surcharge does not apply to travel for initial consultations to review project details for estimates.
– Stops for gas or to procure materials will never be included in the Trip Fee calculation.
– This fee helps to defray the operational costs of transit time opportunity cost, business insurance, and vehicle mileage expenses.
No Markup on Project Materials:
-Fair and Square Repair NEVER charges a markup on job materials, so any supplies required to complete a job are simply passed through to the customer.
– Digital copies of all purchased material receipts are sent with each invoice for transparency.
– For projects requiring a large amount of supplies, 50% of estimated job materials costs are due at contract signing (eg. deck, fence, Tile, etc.)
Estimate / Bid Pricing Requests:
– A Project estimate can be provided when necessary for specific opportunities. A bid will be sent by email after free consultation to review job specifics in detail.
– I can provide materials costs and a ballpark labor range estimate. Noting that ultimately, the customer will be invoiced based on ACTUAL labor and materials required to complete the commissioned scope of work, regardless of estimate figures) Only pay for the exact amount of labor you actually receive — in line with the the “Fair and Square” namesake!
*Noting that hourly rate pricing is often a more cost effective pricing model for customers, as most contractor project estimates include an additional 30%+ labor and materials premium to account for unforeseen project complications, regardless of whether they actually occur.
What type of Payments do you Accept?
My preferred method of payment is Check or Cash but I can also accept Electronic Bank Transfers (ie. digital check). Within 24 hours of project completion you will receive a detailed invoice via email with a link where you can choose to quickly submit a digital ACH payment.
I also accept all major Credit Cards for an additional 3% of the invoice value to cover the transaction fee expense. Please notify me at the time of service if you intend to pay by Credit Card so I can be sure to include this fee when sending the invoice.
Will you take on my Small projects / tasks?
ABSOLUTELY – small projects are my specialty! I LOVE hanging pictures, fixing a loose handle, pressure washing your patio furniture, repairing torn screens, and thousands of other random little tasks burning a hole in your to do list!
The only thing to note is that my minimum service offering is 1 hour of labor.
What kind of projects DON'T you do?
1) I am unable to perform work on ladders extending above 1 story height, as my business insurance policy specifically prohibits.
2) I do not bid on large remodels or new construction projects that would extend beyond 1 week, or anything requiring more than 1 person to complete the job (Fair and Square Repair is a 1 man operation).
3) I do not do any new construction wall framing or hanging/taping/mudding new drywall. I DO do drywall repairs.
4) I avoid projects requiring specialty licenced trade involvement. I will do my best to connect you to a licenced professional who can help with your project if I am unable.
*No Plumbing
*No Electrical
*No HVAC
Note: As a licenced MN Residential building contractor I do have the ability to subcontract work to these specialty trades when absolutely necessary. However, my business model is to provide only services where I am able to personally deliver the work.
